Whispers in the Air, Not the Good Kind, Though...
Mei often thought about her mother despite her best efforts. Of course, she realized that it was for naught, but at that point the woman had become more of a figurehead to represent her purpose. Being raised by her Grandmother meant she used to be like Mei. But she remembered what her mom said, essentially ringing in her ears.
However, her introspection is short lived, as her spectrometer began to beep. The graveyard, while normally cold, was almost always dead. Not in the good way. The girl's eyes widened, pushing up her thick, rectangular glasses up her nose as she stared in front of her. There was music. She couldn't quite make out the exact details, it being partially obscured by the noise of the world practically buzzing around her. It was like a ghost left behind, an echo.
"Ya' know you aren't gonna be successful like that." A sharp nasally voice filled up the hall around her, making her whip around, hood falling off her head, braid falling over her shoulder instead of down her back like normally. Suzy Kemp. And she's talking to none other than Veronica. Mei knew them both. They were normally hard to ignore, with the former being able to potentially break glass with the harshness of her voice alone and the other being always surrounded by a cloud of smoke only rivaled by the factory on the other side of town. Mei dived behind one of the nearby gravestones, that of some Marie Rogers. She continued to listen in. "Yknow, my experiments have been goin' great. The frogs have been growin'. Quite a lot too."
"So we should be good for the plan next week then?" The smaller girl exhaled, each syllable being punctuated by rings of smoke that began to disappear into the fog.
Mei held her breath as she curled up behind the grave. She'd have to apologize to Marie later, she really didn't want to upset any spirits. Not today either. She was going to have time to have most of the town free for ghost hunting while everybody else was at the concert, and she was not letting Marie blow that for her.
"We're goin' to release it Wednesday. Nobody will know what's comin'. She sure didn't."
They both walked off further into the mist surrounding the trio, Mei finally releasing her held breath, gasping for air lightly. The ghost could wait. Because something's been happening as of late, without her knowing. She was involved in something bigger than that one spirit of many now. And if Suzy Kemp was right, she might just be able to prove the existence of Frogoid, the infamous giant frog cryptid, while she's at it.
